THE CITY

Barcelona is one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world. In a privileged position on the northeastern coast of the Iberian peninsula and the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population. It is also the capital of Catalonia, 1 of the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up Spain.

There are two official languages spoken in Barcelona: Catalan, generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and Spanish. The city of Barcelona has a population of 1.510.000, but this number spirals to more than 4.000.000 if the outlying areas are also included.

It has a huge number of attractions including a city centre which retains its medieval street plan; some stunning modernist architecture including several buildings by Gaudí - Spain's most famous architect; dozens of museums including one dedicated to Picasso, another to Miró and yet another to Barça, Barcelona's world famous football club!

Barcelona, Spain is a city that is divided into 10 districts, each one with its own characteristics, history, and places to visit during your Barcelona vacation. This is a place to enjoy shopping, culture, and relaxing whether it be in Ciutat Vella to Sant Marti, Les Corts, or Montjuic.

Ciutat Vella is the neighborhood that we know as the historic city centre of Barcelona. La Barceloneta, El Barrio de El Raval, and Barrio Gotic, are the most emblematic neighborhoods of this Barcelonean neighborhood.

From here you can take a look around Eixample, or the outskirts of the historic city centre (a residential neighborhood that was elaborated to form a linear architectural scheme created by Ildefons Cerda). The district of Sants-Montjuic, Les Corts is where you will find the FC Barcelona Stadium. Sarria-Sant Gervasi, Barrio or Distrito de Gracia is one of the most popular neighborhoods of Barcelona. Horta-Guinardo, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu, and Sant Marti conform to the rest of the city.
